Raphael Saadiq Drops 'Jimmy Lee,' First Album in Eight Years

After an 8-year hiatus on the solo album beat Raphael Saadiq is back with Jimmy Lee. The album title is inspired by his brother Jimmy Lee's struggle with addiction. The single "Something Keeps Calling" is a nice blend of soul and rock, with Rob Bacon on guitar.

Saadiq says the album is full of personal pain as his brother died of a drug overdose, and it touches on some societal ills. He says his sixth studio album is "a little darker." Some collaborators on the album include Kendrick Lamar, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Brook D'Leau and others.

The creative songwriter and producer has been very busy even before dropping Jimmy Lee. In 2016 he was executive producer for Solange's A Seat At The Table, and last year he was executive producer on John Legend's A Legendary Christmas. Saadiq has been around for years, getting his start with Toni Tony Tone! And with talent like his, he'll be around for years to come.
